Go Go-Karting

#36

Although I have gone go-karting at various amusement parks, the coolest place I ever drove a go-kart was called Velocity 17 in Paramus, New Jersey. I’d never heard of this place before, but when my friend Kevin mentioned it a few years ago, it sounded like something that was right up my alley!

Kevin wound up bringing one of his friends and I brought Chelsea and Caleigh along for our trip to the racetrack. What’s neat about V-17 is that the go-karts can attain speeds of up to 30 mph, while driving them along their 2,000 foot racetrack. Although 30 mph might not sound that fast after driving a car, attaining those speeds in a go-kart was a blast. They also had an electronic leader board in which you can track your lap times and who is winning.

According to their site, V-17 closed in July of last year, but a new one will be opening with brand new bowman gas karts.

No matter what your age is, I would recommend finding a similar go-karting experience, as it was definitely a unique one, especially if you’re looking for something to do!

So if V-17 is closed right now, where else can you go go-karting?

If you live near New York, here is a list that CBS compiled of the best 5 go-kart racing spots.

Funnewjersey.com, which as I said in a previous post is an excellent resource if you’re from the state or live in the tri-state area, also provides a great list.

For you travelers, here’s an awesome list of the 10 coolest go-kart tracks in the world.

Maybe the next step will be looking into racecar places!

So who else has been go-karting or has go-karting on your bucket lists? Tell me about your experiences!

In my teens I go karted in Richmond BC (a suburb of Vancouver BC) and at that age I was competitive and reckless resulting in flipping a go kart on a hairpin turn and scraping my arm. I remember calling work and saying maybe I should stay home as I had big bandage from wrist to elbow and I served food. They told me to come to work, NO BODY can flip a go kart is what they said, so I went to work and showed them, and worked.
Since them I still have ridden go karts but just on the track in Penticton racing with my kids ten years ago when they were younger and occasionally just for a hoot.

    • Hahaha, wow that is too funny! I can just imagine that whole scenario, but I’m glad you were okay and now you have a great story to tell! It’s also neat that you still went go-karting after that 🙂 lol

  2. I went go-karting before with my cousins but I was the only girl so they wouldn’t let me drive! Hahaha, sad right? But I wanna go again soon and whip it till I crash! It just looks so much fun! 🙂

Oh, this brings back memories of my teenage years in my hometown. They opened up a go-kart track back in the early to mid-80’s, and what a BLAST it was! I’m actually planning on bringing my 2 kids to the same track this summer when we come up to visit their Grandparents. They are 13 and 11 and they will have so much fun with this… Thanks for the reminder.

  4. Great picture! You can feel the excitement!
