As a bucket list blogger, I think that we all need a little inspiration sometimes. Here are some of my favorite inspirational quotes taken from a variety of sources:
- “What a comforting thought it is that the best day of your life may not have happened yet.” – Unknown
- “I’m bored is a useless thing to say. I mean, you live in a great big, vast world that you’ve seen none percent of. Even the inside of your own mind is endless; it goes on forever, inwardly, do you understand? The fact that you’re alive is amazing, so you don’t get to say ‘I’m bored.’” – Louis C.K.
- “Do one thing every day that scares you.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
- Sonder: n. “The realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own—populated with [his or her] own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness—an epic story that continues invisibly around you like an anthill sprawling deep underground, with elaborate passageways to thousands of other lives that you’ll never know existed, in which you might appear only once, as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic passing on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.” – The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows
- “From what we cannot hold, the stars are made.” – W.S. Merwin
- But often, in the world’s most crowded streets,/ But often, in the din of strife,/ There rises an unspeakable desire /After the knowledge of our buried life.” — Matthew Arnold
- “I want to be famous to shuffling men/who smile while crossing streets,/ sticky children in grocery lines,/famous as the one who smiled back./ I want to be famous in the way a pulley is famous,/or a buttonhole, not because it did anything spectacular,/ but because it never forgot what it could do.” – Naomi Shihab Nye
- “Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.” –Dalai Lama
- “Thank God for all I missed cause it led me here to this” – Darius Rucker
- “When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.” –John Lennon
- “This too shall pass.” – Unknown.
- “If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door” – Milton Berle.
- “If not us, who? If not now, when?” – Hillel the Elder
- “What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
- “It is never too late to be what you might have been” – George Eliot

I think your latest blog is brilliant. May I suggest another one for you as I live in Australia and there are major time differences around the world Regards Christopher aussiedogblog.com:
Tomorrow has already arrived, see it happened. Don’t worry about it.”
Two of my most favorite quotes
1.) Gandhi. ..”Be the change you want to see in the world”
2.) Eleanor Roosevelt…”You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”
Thanks for sharing your 10 quotes I needed to hear them.

I’ve always been fascinated by the ideas in no.4 but to see it written down like that is amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, me too! I think it’s awesome someone put that into words 🙂 Thank you for checking it out!
Love love, thanks for the lift for the day. My favourite at the moment is… ‘For a seed to achieve its greatest expression, it must come completely undone. The shell cracks, its insides come out and everything changes. To someone who doesn’t understand growth, it would look like complete destruction’ Cynthia Occelli
I’m glad you enjoyed it and you’re very welcome 🙂 I love that quote, thank you for sharing!
I put this on my Facebook page and linked it to you.
Thanks so much Mario :)!
1. What’s interesting about 1. is that I always believe that best days are those, where you took a chance on what you felt you needed to do for sometime, but where you weren’t sure so you held out until it was fairly obvious that change was necessary.
2. I had a professor of history who told the class: “If you think the class is boring, you are bored, not the class.” She was correct, but of course I never thought her class was boring. I was always amazed. She had a fellow professor friend, who was also my professor and between the two of them I was always open-mouthed and simply stupified by their brilliant lectures and material to read. I loved them and their classes. Doris Ladd and Edgar C. Knowlton were their names.
3. Eleanor makes the point I made in 1.
4. Brilliant.
5. Yes, Merwin, a poet I have read you are correct about the invisible world that is so much more influential than the real one.
6. Same as 5.
7. I have met Ms. Nye. Heard her speak to a class at University of Hawaii. She read poetry too. I was attracted to her, but she was married and had children from what I remember.
8. Yes, not getting what you want keeps you hungry.
9. Likewise 8.
10. Lennon nailed it. Happiness is a constant journey often in the eyes looking out the window at work, and in the hope as the time clock is engaged at the end of a shift. Happiness is the freedom to be and in being we are productive. We want to make things of beauty.
13. The importance of knowing that we are responsible for our happiness.
14. Actions speak louder than words. I always wait for these because they were what gave impetus to the words in the first place and narrowed down what really mattered.
15. Yes, I am preparing to be.
Mario, I love your interpretation of all of the quotes 🙂 Yes, isn’t Merwin great? And that’s so neat you met Ms. Nye!
🙂
Thank you for this! Love all of these 🙂

2 is perfect. Something I say every day to other people – far too many allow themselves to be ‘bored’ instead of making use of the full extent of themselves and their minds, sad really.

I love quotes 1 + 15! Another one of my favorites is: “If you’re not uncomfortable, you’re not growing”
Me too 🙂 And ah, I love that one, thank you for sharing it!
What a great post! #1:I remember a friend’s daughter, who had just graduated from high school, commented, “They say high school years are the best of your life.” My reply was, “I would hate to think the best years of my life were over at age 17.”
My favorite is #4.
Thanks so much Marilyn :)! And haha, I love that response; it’s so true. It would be sad to think that. And yes, I love #4!
